"Play builds the kind of free-and-easy, try-it-out, do-it-yourself kind of character that our future needs."

WHAT IS THE PLAY ROOM?

In The Play Room, children will join Miss Tania and up to 12 others for a two-hour, open-ended, unstructured creative play session.

Each session is thoughtfully set up with a variety of invitations to play—creative play, movement play, artistic play, ball play, sensory play, musical play, loose parts play, pretend play, messy play… and anything else their curious brains dream up. Not everything will be out at once, but with a studio overflowing with props, children can request materials to build on their own ideas and expand their play.

For messy ideas, there’s kinetic sand, playdough, water beads, oobleck, rainbow rice, paints, paper, glue and more. Not everything will be out at once—but with a studio overflowing with props and materials, children are encouraged to request what they need to bring their ideas to life.

It's probably not a great day for your Sunday best. Things will get messy, so pack a new pair of socks and/or a change of clothes just in case your little one dives all in 🙊

THE PLAY ROOM IS TRUE UNSTRUCTURED PLAY

Unlike like structured play, where there is typically a defined outcome led by an adult, the focus on these play sessions is to truly allow children to play creatively using open ended play materials that provide endless possibilities….the true definition of unstructured play.

Miss Tania’s role in these sessions is one of absolute respect for the children’s ideas and capabilities. Her aim in these sessions is to follow their lead and learn alongside them, being called upon as a guide and a resource only when required.  This doesn’t mean that the children will be able to do as they please, but rather Miss Tania will nurture awareness and problem solving throughout the session with phrases like using ‘I wonder what would happen if…?’ or ‘What’s your plan if….?’or ‘How will you..?'.
